These riots are beyond a joke now.
For those not in the know, the police were after somebody in Tottenham, London, who, (according to one source I saw), was suspected of having something to do with drugs. He apparently opened fire on the police, so the police fired back and killed him.
On Saturday there was a peaceful protest by people who wanted answers from the police. The protests got hijacked and all hell broke loose. Tottenham got totally trashed. Buildings torched, people made homeless, companies losing thousands of pounds worth of stock and local businesses being ruined.
The next day, the same happened in Enfield and spread in a big circle from the north of London to the east.
Today, riots have taken place all across London, even in central London, and have even taken place elsewhere in the country. The images are fucking shocking.
So far there have been reports of riots in London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Waltham Cross in south Hertfordshire, Waltham Abbey in Essex, and reports of large groups of "protesters" in Bristol.
Hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of pounds worth of stock has been looted. Shops like Currys, Panasonic stores, Sony stores, Carphone Warehouse, game shops have been looted and torched, whole shopping centres have gone up in flames - latest reports are even saying that a huge Sony centre has been torched.
The events are absolutely disgusting. I can't even begin to imagine how much this is all going to cost to get the areas cleaned up, rebuilt, payouts to companies who have lost stock, home insurance, payouts for destroyed cars, replacing police cars and equipment, re-homing people made homeless, punishing the people who took part... It's all very, very messy.
Here's a map that apparently gets updated every so often showing the affected areas:

What's going on? :/
